Frequently Asked Questions About Chinook Village

Good to Know:

  • 1. What is Supportive Living at Chinook Village?

Supportive Living is for seniors who can handle most of their day-to-day living requirements but who appreciate service options such as housekeeping, meal preparation, laundry services, etc. Supportive living allows you to maintain your independence with just enough help to ensure your healthy and rewarding lifestyle.

  • 2. What is Assisted Living at Chinook Village?

Assisted Living includes all the benefits and options of Supportive Living with the addition of 24/7 staff on site to assist you and to provide personal response to medical emergencies. Assisted living extends into areas of personal care such as medication management, portering, managed incontinence care, etc.

  • 3. Do I need to sign a lease?

Yes – you will be required to sign an Agreement, which is a contract laying out the terms of living at Chinook Village in an easy to understand format. If you choose Independent Living, you would sign a Life Lease contract. For Supportive or Assisted Living, you will have two options for your living arrangements: you may either rent your suite or purchase a Life Lease. Whether you choose to rent or to Life Lease, you would be required to give thirty days’ notification of your intent to vacate the suite.

  • 4. What is a Life Lease at Chinook Village?

A Life Lease is an investment in lifestyle rather than in tangible property. A Life Lease integrates the best of both worlds between renting and full ownership. You avoid the hassles of owning your own home and instead enjoy the freedom of a safe and well-kept community.

Since Chinook Village is not-for-profit, your suite will be priced below market value compared to other units within the Medicine Hat area. Similar to purchasing a home, your purchase of a Life Lease is made up-front and in it’s entirety. There are no legal or real-estate fees, since Chinook Village owns the buildings and property. However, unlike renting, in the event you wish to move out, you give notice and monies are refunded according to the payout schedule stated in your Life Lease Agreement.

  • 5. Do you provide wi-fi?

Chinook Village has outlets for your choice of cable, internet and telephone provider; however, we only have wi-fi located in guest suites and certain lounges at this time.

  • 6. What is the minimum age to live at Chinook Village?

Chinook Village is a fifty plus adult community.

  • 7. What about parking my car? Do my guests have to pay for parking?

Residents who live in Independent Living automatically have both underground parking and storage. Residents who live in Supportive Living and Assisted Living have use of outside parking with plug-in units. Underground parking is available for those residents on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Guests will have outside parking which includes a plug-in at no extra cost.

  • 8. Do you allow pets, or allow them to visit?

At this time Chinook Village is a pet-free community. However, there are occasions when Recreation will have a special program for pet therapy.
