RecreationCoordinator
This is a supervisory position that reports to the Managing Director. This full-time position has varying hours that includes some evenings and weekends. The Recreation Coordinator is responsible to plan and deliver quality recreational activities that help to improve or maintain resident physical, cognitive, social and emotional functioning of our residents; ensures a positive experience that helps enable our residents to live their best life. This position will collaborate effectively with all managers, residents, family members and community at large to enhance our village life.
Background: A diploma in one of the following: Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Leisure Studies, Hospitality/Tourism, Gerontology or equivalent. Experience working with seniors; proficiency in Microsoft office (Word, Excel PowerPoint, Outlook);excellent communication skills; strong leadership skills; energetic; and a compassionate team player.

1. Provide a recreation program on a daily basis including evenings and weekends.
a) Plan, organize, implement, evaluate activities appropriate to the needs of residents that includes, but are not limited to:
· Large and small group social activities
· Special events that may include entire village(eg: Christmas Banquets, garage sale, memorial services, Neighbourfest, etc.)
· Indoor and outdoor activities
· Activities away from Chinook Village
· Cultural and inter-generational activities
· Opportunity for resident involvement in the planning and implementation of activities
· Creative activities such as arts, crafts, music, drama, education programs
· Exercise and other physical activities
· One to one attention
· Promotion of site /community interaction
b) Prepares a monthly calendar of activities that is published and posted.
c) Provides direct supervision to recreation aides; schedules aides to meet program needs, provide orientation and training.
d) Recruit, train and supervise volunteers for the Corner Store, one to one visitation, crafts, entertainment.
e) Assess resident needs and develop resident activity goal for the written care plan.
f) Encourage resident participation in activities and document outcomes.
g) Responsible for audits and reports, providing and evaluating programs.
h) Ensures compliance with all regulatory regulations and standards (ie: Accommodations and Licensing Standards; Continuing Care Health Services Standards)
2. Obtain necessary equipment and supplies and provide their accessibility through organized storage.
a) Participate in budget development.
b) Foster family and community support of recreation program. (e.g.; newsletters, networking, activities which bring family members or members of the community into the site)
3. Manage daily operations of the Corner Store and Ice Cream Parlour.
a) Recruit, orientate and train volunteers.
b) Obtain necessary equipment and supplies.
c) Maintain accurate accounting of sales.
d) Promotes venues within site.
4. Responsible for the Resident & Family Council.
a) Schedule meetings and record minutes.
b) Recruit and orientate members.
c) Promote resident council within Supportive and Assisted Living.
d) Ensure compliance with the requirements of the Resident and Family Council Act.
5. Contribute to site efforts to maintain and/or improve quality of care through participation in the following:
a) Attend care plan meetings.
b) Serve as member of quality improvement committee and marketing committee.
c) Attend Leadership meetings and daily huddle.
d) Serve on various site committees as requested.(eg: Health & Safety, Team Relations)
e) Attend mandatory in-services.
f) Follow Emergency Management plan, infection control protocols, WHMIS, and Health & Safety.
