CALENDAR OF ACTIVITIES FOR THE MONTH
Welcome Mother Nature Preschool!
There are new, little faces in the Village who instantly bring a smile to our faces – children! Mother Nature Preschool opened their doors on
January 7, 2019 and we are extending a warm welcome to our newest tenant.
Intergenerational programming has many benefits for both seniors and children; and we’re thrilled to be the first residence in Medicine Hat to offer this collaberation, working towards bridging the generational gap. Our residents will benefit from the spontaneity that comes with children, alleviating boredom. The children’s energy,
curiosity and warmth are soaked up by our residents and already, the effect is noticeable. Our senior’s will share the wisdom of their years, reinforcing manners, patience, kindness and important social skills. The unconditional love that emanates from these relationships is remarkable and heartwarming.
While the Preschool is part of Chinook Village and intergenerational activities are foremost in mind, the Preschool itself is in a separate but adjoined building within Chinook. There are no suites directly adjacent to the Preschool, so no resident needs to worry about the noise. Also, the children will always be accompanied by staff when in the Village, respectful and mindful that they are in someone’s home.
Chinook Village is pleased to present their new partnership with Sandstone Pharmacies Crescent Heights!
Effective March 1, 2018, Chinook Village implemented an important new agreement with Sandstone Pharmacies, Crescent Heights. Briefly stated, the benefits of working with a single pharmacy help reduce medication errors and hospital admissions.
Sandstone provides professional support and hands-on care across southern Alberta. They are accessible 24/7 and offer free delivery of prescription medication. Sandstone also conducts a comprehensive annual medication review with individual residents and assesses residents prior to the start of the influenza season each year to ensure residents have an up-to-date antiviral prescription on file in the event of breakout.
This is the safest and best practice for standardizing dispensing and distribution of medications by Health Care Aides as recommended by Health Quality Council of Alberta and the Continuing Care Health Services Standards.
