Our Roots

Unique to Medicine Hat, Chinook Village is a faith-based organization initially developed by the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada as a centre for learning known as Hillcrest Christian College.

These roots are foundational to the whole of Chinook Village with strong values of trust, integrity, compassion, and accountability that run deeply and that flow through every service we extend today.

Licensed by the Government of Alberta, our operations are overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors composed of residents and leading members of the Medicine Hat community. Chinook Village continues to meet the spiritual needs of our residents through our respect of these values and our Chaplaincy program.

Chaplain Services

Our Chaplain offers pastoral care, counselling, hospital visitation along with other complementary roles to ministry. Chinook Village Chaplaincy features weekly worship in our beautiful chapel as well as weekly Bible studies, sing-a-longs, special occasion services and many opportunities for group and volunteer participation. Please contact us for more information.

I love Chinook Village! I’ve heard numerous times how our residents have flourished since they moved in, how they got a new lease on life. How they’ve experienced fun, fellowship and new friendships. People are social beings and desire and need love and a place to belong. Chinook Village is full of people with similar values and beliefs. We enjoy life and each other’s company and all the amenities here to help to grow and enjoy your best life now – at any age.

“I’ve got the best role in Chinook Village. Why? Because I’m the one who’s by your side and sees the smile on your face as you decide that one of our independent, supportive, or assisted living suites is perfect for the lifestyle you want. That you’ve found your next forever home, and can now truly live your best life now! Throughout my career I’ve thrived on meeting new faces, learning about their history and listening to their stories.  At “The Village,” folks come through the doors as residents and end up as friends.

Everyday is a new and interesting experience when you oversee six buildings with over 400 residents! That keeps my maintenance and housekeeping teams and myself on our toes at all times. Whether it’s checking the heating systems, refurbishing suites or ensuring the security of the buildings, my team is committed to ensuring our residents have a safe, secure and well-run place to call home. Each and every member of our team has a heart for our residents here at Chinook Village.

Chaplain

Love God and love people!! It’s as simple as that! These are the core values out of which a chaplain carries his calling. And I am so blessed to be able to perform this role at Chinook Village. People need people around them that care. We have many bible-based programs that bring people from “the Village” together to study together, to pray and get to know each other on a spiritual level. There is also the need to be reminded that God loves the world but also has a desire to be in personal relationship with each person. I count it a privilege to be able to guide others into that relationship with their Creator and to walk along with them through the dark and difficult times we might experience. Chinook Village addresses the physical, the emotional, as well as the spiritual needs of each of its residents.

I have one of the most fun jobs ever!  With 22 years of experience in Senior Care, I understand the importance of recreation.  As the Recreation Coordinator, I provide a monthly calendar with fun and exciting activities using different techniques including live music, exercises, arts/craft, pet visitation, mental stimulation, games, community outings, special events and so much more.  These programs improve and maintain the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of the residents here at the Chinook village.  Socializing helps us all build confidence and close personal relationships where we soon find new friendships!
